Lightning kills over 50 people in the U.S. each year and inflicts life-long debilitating injuries on hundreds more.  Go inside if you hear thunder, but keep away from corded telephones, electrical appliances, and plumbing.  ‘Lightning Safety Awareness Week’ is June 24-30, 2012.  Learn more at www.lightningsafety.noaa.gov.

When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors!

Lightning is the second greatest cause of storm-related deaths in the U.S., killing more than tornadoes or hurricanes.  Lightning also inflicts life-long debilitating injuries on many more than it kills.  NO PLACE OUTSIDE IS SAFE NEAR A THUNDERSTORM!  Go inside if you hear thunder, but keep away from corded telephones, electrical appliances, and plumbing.  The second safest place is a vehicle with a metal roof and metal sides.  Lightning Safety Awareness Week is June 19-25, 2011.  Learn more at www.lightningsafety.noaa.gov.

July 4th Blurb: When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors!

Lightning kills over 50 people in the U.S. each year and inflicts life-long debilitating injuries on hundreds more. July is usually the peak of lightning season in the U.S. and is also the peak of lightning casualty season.  The “4th of July” is especially dangerous, since many people are involved in outdoor activities, which put them at greater risk.  Go inside if you hear thunder, but keep away from corded telephones, electrical appliances, and plumbing.  If you can’t get inside a substantial building, the second safest place is inside a vehicle with a metal roof and metal sides.  Lightning Safety Awareness Week is June 24-30, 2012.  Learn more at www.lightningsafety.noaa.gov.
